Men’s diamond rings have grown significantly more popular in recent years. There
is such diversity of design in these diamond rings, that they are not restricted
to wedding bands alone. Men can now choose from a number of styles to find the perfect
diamond ring. These exquisite pieces of men’s fine jewelry are as appropriate to
mark major milestones as they are for everyday wear.
Precious metals used for mens diamond rings
With such a varied selection of styles available to men now, diamond jewelers commonly
feature pieces created from several different precious metals. While yellow gold
is the traditional choice for rings, diamond rings for men are now also available
in white gold, platinum, titanium and even two-tone styles.
White gold has a silvery-white tone and is formed by blending or alloying gold with
another white metal. Often nickel or palladium is used. By blending gold with another
metal, it is possible to increase its durability for use in fine jewelry pieces
such as watches or a white gold diamond ring.
Platinum has become extremely popular in the design of mens diamond rings. In appearance,
platinum looks similar to white gold, but this precious metal is less pliable and
therefore can be used in pure form to create fine jewelry. A diamond ring made of
platinum will also feel heavier that a white gold diamond ring, as it is a denser
metal.
Titanium is also an extremely popular choice for mens diamond rings. It is also
considered a white metal, but carries a smokier undertone than white gold or platinum.
In addition to is beautiful appearance, titanium has the added benefit of being
hyperallergenic.
Mens diamond rings featuring two-tone metals create a distinctive look. These designs
combine a yellow and white metal, typically yellow gold and any of the white metals
previously mentioned.
Popular settings for mens diamond rings
Settings typically used in mens diamond rings are not necessarily the same settings
found in women’s rings. Although there are exceptions, settings for men commonly
usually the gem within the band rather than display it prominently above the ring.
In most cases, the surface is even with the band.
Settings often found in mens diamond rings include :
Channel – As the name implies, diamonds are inlaid within a groove, or channel.
Pave – In this setting, smaller stones encrust the band. Tiny prongs hold each gem
securely, giving the illusion of a solid diamond surface.
Invisible – Grooves under each stone are fitted into the metal below. The setting
mechanism remains out of sight, creating the effect of larger stones.
