People have their own set of ideas to make their engagement function an unforgettable moment. Antique rings are rare and may be 50-100 years old. However, people having less knowledge about antique jewelry must buy them from a reputed store.

Styles of Antique Engagement Rings

  • Victorian Antique Engagement Rings – This style was popular in the period 1835-1900. The intricate designs of the rings made it looks elegant and royal. There were simple designs as well which was liked by the people during that time. This style of antique jewelry is very much in fashion nowadays as well.

In this era, new discovery of diamond mines in South Africa changed the whole scenario of jewelry designing. There was an extra facet in the diamonds which was known as the mine cut. In the year 1886, six-prong diamond solitaire was introduced to the global market.

  • Edwardian Engagement Rings – These types of designs were available from 1900-1920. Platinum was used for making these antique engagement rings. Jewelers began crafting filigree details on the mounting which was highly appreciated by the people.

Lacy and pierced shapes, scrollwork and milgraining were other works that was done by the jewelers. Popular stones in the Edwardian style rings were rose-cut diamonds and brilliant sapphires.

  • Art-Deco Engagement Rings – This style came during 1920-1930s when machines were used to give the jewelry a geometric look. It had the blend of Asian, Egyptian and Native American cultures. It had more colored gemstones in the rings and in other jewelry items which looked quite different from the Edwardian style.

Art-Deco styles are till date very popular amongst all the antique engagement rings available in the market.

These days there are replica rings available in the market which you may avoid purchasing. You might have to pay quite a large amount for these replica rings instead of the original piece of that time. Remember the antique rings will not have the best diamonds because there were no heavy and computerized equipments to cut this hardest mineral.
